MOVIE NEWS – Connie Nielsen and Stana Katic have joined Apple TV’s upcoming MonsterVerse spin-off about Lee Shaw’s 1984 mission in Russia. Their characters remain undisclosed, but Wyatt Russell’s return is now surrounded by an increasingly impressive ensemble.

After Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. turned Godzilla and Kong into a major theatrical franchise, the MonsterVerse moved onto Apple TV in 2023 with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Set in 2015, one year after Godzilla’s return, the series follows two half-siblings investigating their father’s connection to Monarch, the organization tasked with monitoring Titans.

Reports of another series surfaced in November 2025, before the second season premiered. This spin-off moves back to 1984 and sends Colonel Lee Shaw behind enemy lines in Russia, where he must prevent the Soviets from unleashing a Titan powerful enough to reshape the Cold War.

Wyatt Russell is reprising Lee Shaw, while Millie Brady and Pilou Asbæk have also been cast in roles that have not yet been revealed. Deadline now reports that Connie Nielsen and Stana Katic have boarded the show as well, although Apple and Legendary have not identified their characters.

Nielsen’s credits include both Wonder Woman films, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the two Gladiator movies, and Nobody. Katic is best known for playing Kate Beckett opposite Nathan Fillion in Castle; she also voiced Diana Prince across the three animated Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths films.

The project still has no release date

The untitled series has no announced production start or Apple TV premiere window. Even so, its Cold War setting, Russell’s return, and the latest casting additions suggest a substantial exploration of a chapter in MonsterVerse history that has so far remained largely unseen.

The franchise will also expand in cinemas with Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, currently scheduled for March 26, 2027. Story details are being protected, but early promotional hints point to the fragile coexistence of humans and Titans being threatened by a vast monster storm emerging from another clash between Godzilla and Kong.
