Silent Hill 2 Remake’s surprise 1.0.7 update was meant to improve visuals and performance on PS5, but players say it introduced new problems instead. Hundreds of fans are reporting blurred faces, grainy hair, heavier ghosting, and broken shadows, while Konami has begun investigating the complaints.

The patch initially appeared to be welcome news for PS5 and PS5 Pro owners. Konami said it would refine both Performance and Quality modes, reduce shadow flickering and visual artifacts during movement, and correct several smaller bugs.

According to player reports, version 1.0.7 failed to deliver those improvements consistently and created additional issues. Some users are now advising others not to install the update if they have not already done so.

“This literally made everything worse. I have a standard PS5, the lighting is awful in both graphics modes, and the hair and faces of the models look grainy and blurry. Also, the ghosting has gotten even worse”, Reddit user odezia wrote.

“Sorry, but this has made it worse. With all due respect, how on earth did it pass quality control?”, Boobel asked.

“Yeah, the shadow scaling around objects is now totally broken in Performance Mode, making it unplayable for me”, TheRoplite added.

Konami is already looking for a fix

The publisher responded to the PlayStation community and confirmed on X that it is aware of the trouble introduced after the update.

“We want to confirm that we are aware of the recent issues affecting Performance Mode on PS5 and PS5 Pro with Silent Hill 2 Remake following the release of patch 1.0.7. Our team is currently investigating these issues and exploring possible solutions. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will share more information as soon as possible”, the company stated.

Konami has not provided a deadline for the next patch, but the message indicates that work on correcting the new problems is already underway.
