Will the Third-Generation Xbox Elite Controller Feature a Mini Display?

Microsoft has leaked another piece of information: this time, it’s not about its next-generation console, Xbox Project Helix, but rather a few images of its new Elite controller.

The Xbox Elite Series 3 controller may be available by the end of the year, but thanks to the leak, prototypes of the new controller have already been seen by the public. In fact, a new image has surfaced that clearly shows the changes. Among other things, the leak reveals that the Xbox Elite Series 3 now features a small display on top. It’s not large enough to play games on, though. For that, we’d have to look to the Nintendo Wii U GamePad controller, which was widely regarded as a major flop…

Anyone know what controller this is?! Is this the elite series 3??

Based on the images, a small display appears to be built into the front of the Xbox Elite Series 3 controller. The author of the Reddit post reportedly paid $200 for this accessory on OfferUp, a local marketplace app. However, since this controller was a prototype not intended for the general public, the posts have since been removed. The Reddit user also mentioned that the controller is currently non-functional, as it cannot be paired with either a PC or an Xbox console. However, the photos remain and showcase several new features of the Xbox Elite Series 3. First, it appears that the higher-end controller will feature a redesigned D-pad and a removable battery.

It’s hard to say how the display itself will work at this point, but according to the post, it will show the pairing status between local and cloud-based modes. Unfortunately, it’s not yet clear whether the display has any other features. In any case, one question remains: how does Microsoft keep finding itself in a situation where its controllers repeatedly leak in prototype form? We’ve already seen an example of this this year, and it’s not impossible that we’ll see more in the future.

We can’t even begin to imagine how much Microsoft will charge for this controller.
