Thanks to the interest generated by the movie, this RPG has become the series’ new masterpiece.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is currently the highest-rated game in the series on Steam, with 89% of reviews being very positive. It has surpassed 2010’s Assassin’s Creed II, which has an 86% rating on Steam. Odyssey owes much of its success to Nolan’s film. Due to the film’s box office success, many players turned to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to learn more about Greek mythology. The game’s player base surged across all platforms as 250,000 new players joined to try Ubisoft’s adventure game, despite its age.

On Steam, the number of concurrent players for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey doubled following the film’s release, reaching 15,000 in August, despite being a single-player game released in 2018. Thanks to the film’s promotional effect, the game was able to attract new fans. Reviews published over the past month have been overwhelmingly positive, praising the game’s vast and detailed depiction of ancient Greece, which offers over 100 hours of gameplay.

This shows that a kind of cross-promotion can develop between two completely unrelated products. One product influences the other, pulling it along. There’s nothing wrong with that. At the very least, it boosts sales of Ubisoft’s back catalog, or its older games.
