The annual QuakeCon is currently underway, and id Software has used this event to expose the brand new Doom game. Actually this game is called just “Doom”, like the first one, since the developers wanted make reboot of the franchise. The new trailer, seen below, gives us a first glimpse of the game, which looks absolutely impressive.
Doom will be a next-gen-only game, and is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. According to id Software, the new Doom will go back to the roots of the series, with fast close quarter combat, lots of blood and gore, complete with the good old double-barrel shotgun and the plasma gun. Once again, the game will take place on Mars.
id Software has also developed a brand new game engine, called id Tech 6 for the new Doom game. They have shown showed an extensive demo behind closed doors to attendees, and according to first reports, the game will be more brutal and darker than ever.
One journalist told that a “demon just ripped the player’s arms off and beat him to death with them”. Sounds pretty creepy to us. Others report that double jumps and jetpacks are back in the series, and it will even feature hand to hand combat.
No release date has been revealed, but we expect to see the game sometime in 2015. Which would mean that 10 years would have passed since the last Doom game: Doom 3: Resurrection.
