It’s not a problem if we see a game that has been out in stores for several months getting mentioned even now. This is the case with Metal Gear Solid V, which got finished (?) with The Phantom Pain on September 1. The subject of „Kojimagate” (also being the victim?) was pushed out to the public in an unfinished state due to Konami‘s pressure, but there was a lot of work behind it. This applies to the story as well.
Kanji Yano admitted in his interview with Famitsu that Kojima had the story set in stone in 2011 already. There’s a lot of relation to Melville’s 1851 opus Moby Dick. (Is this name familiar? Moby Dick Studio? Joakim Mogren? When The Phantom Pain wasn’t officially called Metal Gear Solid V, it was a clue!) The entire concept was in the Japanese producer’s head, mixing the Metal Gear Solid universe with Moby Dick’s. Ahab = Snake. Ishmael = Huey. Later, there was a role change, making Big Boss the equivalent of Ishmael.
It’s sad that we weren’t able to see the game in its full glory. Probably, we will never do so.
