Grand Theft Auto V‘s online segment provides decent cash for Rockstar. As you need to own GTA V to play Grand Theft Auto Online, it can be taken as double dipping to an extent for both Rockstar, and the publisher, Take-Two. How much money are we talking about?
Half a billion dollars. Yep, 500 million bucks! Despite Grand Theft Auto Online being free, Rockstar provides optional microtransactions to progress easier for some money. This is a huge success. If we consider that sixty million copies were shipped to the stores, and we count all of them as sold, in average, one player spent 8-9 dollars on GTA Online on top of purchasing GTA V!
Hopefully, there will be single player DLCs for the game – Rockstar is considering it -, but seeing the success of the online portion, it makes sense why they don’t rush to develop those. Unless there’s a sudden, massive dip in players, don’t expect those DLCs to show up!
