Project Sonic, Sonic Mania – the blue hedgehog’s fans might be able to forget the abomination that the Wii U Sonic Boom game was (the 3DS title was alright, though).
Sonic Mania is going to be a two-dimensional platformer that reimagines areas from the first four Sonic games (1, 2, 3 & Knuckles, and CD). The developers will be SEGA of America, PagodaWest Games, and the developer duo of Christian Westhead and Simon Thomley. The result will be seen in 2017 on PS4, X1, and PC. Sonic Team’s boss, Takashi Iizuka says it’s a passion project that was born out of the fans’ love of 2D Sonic games. SEGA will announce more details later this year. Until then, have a look at the gameplay!
The bigger project is Project Sonic, featuring both the classic and the modern hedgehog, making it a possible sequel to Sonic Generations. Developed by Sonic Team (Colors, Generations!), the game is slated for a Holiday 2017 release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and… Nintendo NX! While the teaser trailer is entirely CG, we can’t wait to see more of this game.
It seems that the real Sonic 4 and Sonic Generations 2 are upon us, even though Project Sonic is not a sequel according to Iizuka…
