Valve Is Preparing For VR

Working on… three virtual reality games out of the bat?

Interesting: Valve doesn’t like the number three, but according to Eurogamer, Gabe Newell’s team is working on three games. Newell stated that he doesn’t do experiments, but „full games,” using Valve’s Source Engine 2 and the Unity engine.

He believes that simply moving over games to VR isn’t a good move. Sure, they did it with Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2, but Newell stressed that those were no more than developer milestones. Also, cutting the VR devices’ prices by 80% wouldn’t make them appealing. First, there should be something that could make millions of players excited, and only then should be price cutting considered.

He added that we might see a large improvement by 2018-2019 in VR: „We’re actually going to go from this weird position where VR right now is low-res, to being in a place where VR is actually higher res than just about anything else, with much higher refresh rates than you’re going to see on either desktops or phones. You’ll see the VR industry leapfrogging pretty much any other display technology regarding those characteristics. It’s probably not obvious from the first generation of products, but you’ll start to see that happening like in 2018-2019.”

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
