Seemingly random performance drops? The next „guilty” piece of hardware might have been found.
There’s a possibility that the Nintendo Switch‘s CPU is being overburdened by the Wi-Fi connection. The rumor has surfaced on the Nintendolife website – they talked to an unnamed third-party developer, and they said that I Am Setsuna, Fast RMX, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are all affected by these performance issues.
One reader, JunkRabbit, has shared his experiences with others, saying that the Switch ran the games better if he turned on the auto-connect to Wi-Fi networks, because this way, the handheld/console hybrid doesn’t want to constantly try to connect to a (probably unavailable) network, making the CPU focus on the game. Others report that disabling Wi-Fi is also a solution.
DigitalFoundry‘s analysis of Fast RMX () points out that the Switch has a flaw in its firmware, which drains the GPU‘s resources, but if it gets fixed, the game could run flawlessly in docked mode on 1080p resolution.
So, dear Reggie, do you still think the Switch has no widespread technical issues?
