Electronic Arts: VR Still Needs Time

The publisher believes that AR, augmented reality is more interesting than VR at the moment.

In their first quarter financial report call, Electronic Arts’ CEO, Andrew Wilson, said that at least (!) two years should pass until VR is capable of reaching the mass market, and until then, they’d rather concentrate on AR instead.

Wilson also boasted their engine, Frostbite. He believes it is continuously innovated, as all their internal development teams have switched to this engine (previously, the Mass Effect trilogy was made with Unreal Engine 3). He didn’t answer if the PlayStation 4 Pro/Xbox One X will prompt them to release an updated version of Frostbite, though. 12 games are made with this engine at the moment.

We’d like to see a proper VR game (not an experience!) made with the Frostbite engine, that’s for sure.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
