After Netflix, we might have to pay monthly, but not for series, but games?
Electronic Arts‘ CEO, Andrew Wilson, said that annual releases, such as FIFA or Madden NFL, might not get a new version every year. Instead, the publisher might try to implement a subscription service, as Wilson believes that these games can work as „a 365-day, live service.”
With Madden, Electronic Arts already has a mobile version (which launched three years ago), and they are one of the flagship companies behind the digital trend. On Xbox One and PC, EA/Origin Access is available, where you pay a monthly fee to access a major part of the publisher’s recent library (which also includes Mass Effect: Andromeda by this point as well).
However, switching to this method might not be a good solution in the short term, as Electronic Arts could find itself in a bit of negative spotlight for turning away from the usual thing of paying sixty dollars for the game. We’ll have to see how Wilson’s plans will be able to forward…
