Kratos and Atreus proved themselves.
SuperData‘s article went into how narrative-based games, which tend to either completely lack or put only a small emphasis on multiplayer, performed with their digital revenue in their respective launch months.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt generated 69 million dollars, which is decent (with a 60$/copy average, that’s 1.15 million sales), Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End „only” generated 56 million dollars (which is slightly under a million copies sold digitally), but God of War was the major surprise. 131 million dollars generated in its launch month! That’s 2.18 million games (and since Sony said the game went over five million in its first month, even the digital to physical ratio is great), and seeing how The Witcher 3 was multiplatform, and even that advantage didn’t make it go high, we can clearly say God of War proved the doubters of single-player games wrong.
„These results show that there is a significant demand for narrative experiences among gamers,” the article says. We cannot argue with this
