Grand Theft Auto V's Publisher Wins Case Against Cheating!

Take-Two claims David Zipperer’s software has cost them over half a million dollars.

Reuters reports that David Zipperer, who was taken to court by Take-Two for selling illegal software for Grand Theft Auto Online, received his punishment: US District Judge Louis Stanton awarded Take-Two a preliminary injunction preventing Zipperer from selling his cheat software, saying that he caused irreparable harm to Grand Theft Auto V‘s sales, as well as infringing its copyright.

The judge decided to award an injunction because Zipperer has no job, and thus, he wouldn’t have been able to afford damages. He also dismissed an unfair competition claim by Take-Two against Zipperer, though, which is surprising.

The publisher continues to pursue legal action to maintain Grand Theft Auto Online‘s community by preventing „disruptions,” such as those that Zipperer’s program caused. Still, it’s amazing that the publisher didn’t get a ton of money despite winning the case…
