Ru Weerasuriya, the CEO of Ready at Dawn Studios and creative director of The Order: 1886 made an interview with Polygon, and he confirmed that sequels are already planned for the game.
He also revealed details about the intensity of the development, and the reasons why the power of the PlayStation 4 was needed so they can realize the game, which concept has been kicking around for years.
Weerasuriya’s studio’s included games on PSP, like the two God of War games and Daxter, which all showcased what the PSP was capable of. “The PlayStation 4 is the same for us. The idea again is that you get on a platform so you can show what it can do,” he told Polygon.
Weerasuriya also spoke about the new engine the studio built specifically for this game, which is capable of creating a truly cinematic and seamless experience, and one that looks and feels alive. “Everything interacts the way it should,” he said. “From a rigid-body physics system, to a soft-body physics system. It’s a hard system to build and a hard system to run.”
He also highlighted the importance of creating a world that feels real by talking about how fleshed out the backstory is of The Order: 1886‘s Victorian London, of the ancient war between the knights you’ll play in the game and the monsters they seek to vanquish, and why they’d like to continue telling stories in that world.
“We have other games in mind, other things that could be done,” he said. “The reality is that we never build a world with the mind set of ‘There is one story and that is that.’ We build a world purely for the purpose of making more than one game. It takes too much work for this to be for a single title.”
