The Finnish developer team now has the publishing rights as well for Alan Wake and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.

With both Alan Wake and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare being an Xbox 360 and PC game (we’re not talking about backwards compatibility this time), those who had a PlayStation 3 at the time, for example, could have been somewhat jealous. However, the Finn team announced in a press release the following: „For its first half-year period of 2019, Remedy Entertainment Plc records approximately 2.5 million euros of royalties from previously released games as one-time income. The royalties are paid to Remedy during the second half-year period of 2019. In relation to this, the publishing rights of Alan Wake games are reverted to Remedy.”

It means the publishing rights are now back with Remedy Entertainment, who can even think about porting the two Alan Wake titles to other platforms, such as the PlayStation 4 with some make-up, or even consider a portable version to the Nintendo Switch. Since they got some loyalty money, they could afford to do so.

Previously, we wrote about how Remedy tried to do Alan Wake 2 but not get anywhere with it, but now that they have the publishing rights, they could give it a try again after finishing up Control for 505 Games, as well as the single-player campaign of Crossfire X (a popular game in the Middle-East and Asia) for Smilegate Entertainment.

The Finnish developer team now has almost full freedom on what to do, and it’s questionable what the future holds for them. As Sony Interactive Entertainment is planning to acquire studios (it was in the same Nikkei interview we wrote about how the PlayStation 5 could be a hardcore platform – Jim Ryan, the president of SIE talked about the acquisitions), there’s a chance that they could be part of the Sony empire, or at least make a PlayStation 5-exclusive title for them.
