A New Okami Might Be Developed [VIDEO]

In new Okami, GhostWire: Tokyo’s former creative director might also take part.

Ikumi Nakamura showed up in Bethesda’s E3 program, as GhostWire: Tokyo is being developed by the same team (Tango Gameworks, led by Shinji Mikami, the father of Resident Evil) that previously made the two The Evil Within games. Nakamura has since left the team, and she has been looking around game studios to see where she could continue. She posted a short video on Twitter, where Hideki Kamiya (Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Bayonetta, The Wonderful 101…), one of the founders of PlatinumGames, states that Okami is going to be back, followed by a thumbs up.

„Okami is going to be back! We want to make Okami sequel and fans are looking forward to it too. You guys want to see Kamiya’s Okami again, right, everyone? I want to work on it too!”, Nakamura’s tweet states. How is she and Kamiya related to Okami?

Okami was directed by Kamiya at Capcom (and he left after that to be one of the founders of PlatinumGames), and Nakamura also worked at Capcom between 2004 and 2006, as an environment artist on Okami. She followed Kamiya to PlatinumGames where they worked together on Bayonetta between 2006 and 2010 – Kamiya was its director, and Nakamura was a concept artist. However, this video doesn’t mean that a sequel is announced. The IP is at Capcom, not at PlatinumGames, but seeing how Capcom tends to look into popular demand (see Resident Evil 2 Remake), it might happen.

In a later tweet, Nakamura added the following: „I want to see simply great games and games that gamers want to play be developed. I don’t understand budgets and politics. I just want to continue to be a creator that can say that great things are great. Okami is one of those that have the power to overcome all of that.”

The ball is now in Capcom’s court.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
