As Google’s streaming service, Google Stadia will not be available in our country for possibly at least one more year, we don’t have personal experiences of the Stadia yet.
Those who paid for Google Stadia’s Founder’s or Premiere Edition can play from today. Google promised that the 10.7 TFLOPS computing performance will allow 4K gameplay at 60 frames per second. According to The Verge, that is not the case: „When streaming at 4K, we render at a native 1080p and then upsample and apply a variety of techniques to increase the overall quality of effect,” Google confirmed.
Destiny 2 does not run on a native 4K resolution. What graphical presets does Bungie’s game use then? Medium settings. With that result, the Xbox One X, the currently strongest console on the market, laughs around the Google Stadia, as it runs Destiny 2 on native 4K, with higher settings to boot.
Eurogamer has also reviewed the Stadia, and they found that Red Dead Redemption 2’s game runs on 1440p, which you’d think could be okay. However, the frame rate is thirty frames per second. At least the Western game is on the same level on the Stadia as the Xbox One X…
Sure, streaming is young, and even with a few years after OnLive (do you still remember that?), there’s still a lot of room to improve, and Google previously said that the computing performance will improve for the Stadia, meaning the 10.7 TFLOPS could be much higher later, possibly overcoming what the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Project Scarlett could have.
Google Stadia launched today in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. More traditional free-to-play and premium subscription options will arrive in early 2020.
