Ubisoft‘s Montreal studio is one of the most important within the company – aside from the Assassin’s Creed franchise, they worked on Far Cry and Watch Dogs, too.
Louis de Carufel is a programmer at Ubisoft, and he possibly got some stern comments from one of the PR people for discussing the game on Twitter. We cannot link the tweets anymore, as they are deleted, but, as always, the Internet doesn’t forget. Let’s see what de Carufel wrote:
„I just learned that the project I’ve been working on for the past 3 years has been cancelled. This is tough news because I’ve been working with all these people for around 7 years, during which we have shipped both Watch_Dogs and Watch_Dogs 2. However, the good thing about working at Ubisoft Montreal is that nobody in the team has lost their job! Every single one of the 200+ people in the team will be reassigned to an existing project in the studio (there’s over 15 of them). We even get to choose which ones we prefer! So it’s tough news, but I now see it as an opportunity to learn a new engine and meet new people. Some of the projects are shipping in 2020, while others are just starting. It’s gonna be a difficult choice!”, de Carufel wrote.
On ResetEra, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier revealed a bit more about this game. It’s not Pioneer (which was teased in Watch Dogs 2), as that was cancelled earlier. It’s also not a new Splinter Cell title. This project was from the Watch Dogs team, and it would have been a new IP with a Destiny-like live service approach. (How ironic: recently, Ghost Recon Breakpoint flopped with a similar business model.)
Nothing is confirmed, though, but if de Carufel deleted all the tweets, all this information may be true.
