Sony might be using Remote Play far more than they do at the moment.
On Reddit, a survey has popped up. Sony has sent it out to a few lucky PlayStation 4 users, and according to the post, several subjects have been mentioned, such as using Remote Play with a PS4 not connected to the Internet, playing Remote Play on a Nintendo Switch (!), AppleTV, AndroidTV, hiding unused controls for the game to allow for more screen real estate, exclusive maps/accessories for Remote Play, offline Remote Play, connecting other controllers (Xbox) and mouse/keyboard, a customizable button layout, the support of PlayStation (PS1) and PlayStation 2 games, parental controls to allow for multiple users to use Remote Play at the same time, and… a slim/portable DualShock controller for portable gaming!?
These sound amazing, but the survey also asked about adjusting video and sound quality to reduce lag, using Remote Play on a generic handheld device (a potential Vita successor solely for Remote Play?!), or using multiple, smaller controllers on a single device (which would be the Nintendo Switch’ idea in Sony’s vision). There was also a question about haptic feedback to simulate controller button presses, and the layouts would be tailored to the device, depending on the screen’s size (meaning it would be different on a smartphone and a PC).
The survey also asked about Remote Play on the Xbox One, but that did not get screen-capped, and the PlayStation Now could take the PlayStation 4 out of the mix, making it easier to stream games, too. (The Xbox One idea sounds intriguing: Sony and Microsoft teamed up to work on streaming technologies together…) Sony could be taking a huge step ahead with the next console generation with Remote Play.
