The power of PlayStation 5 is claimed by a former Sony developer, based on what he heard from other devs.

If we look just at the raw figures, then yes, the Xbox Series X does seem to have an advantage: the AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU used in it has a higher clock speed, and the console also has 44 more computing units than in its main competitor, the PlayStation 5. The TFLOPS computing performance also seems to be better in Microsoft’s console, plus the PS5 has variable clock speeds.

Enter Chris Grannell, a former Sony developer (F1, WipEout, and Killzone 2, according to his bio.) His tweet follows: „I’ve chatted to a few devs and they have confirmed the power difference is quite staggering. However, they have said it doesn’t mean you can’t make good games on the PlayStation 5. These [Xbox] fanboys clearly don’t care about that and are massively rattled,” he wrote.

In another tweet, he responded to an „analysis.” It stated that the PlayStation 5 is going to have more raw computing performance than the Xbox Series X, as the audio workload would be taken off the CPU and the GPU. To this, Grannell only said that he has heard different things from the developers.

All we’d say is that the PS2 – which is now twenty years old… – was also weaker than the SEGA Dreamcast, the original Xbox, and even the Nintendo GameCube. Yet, the PlayStation 2 has become the best-selling console of all time, and this record is still held by it. (The PlayStation 4 could be getting close, but we have yet to see how long it will be supported by Sony…)

The PlayStation 5 might launch this Holiday season. The pricing is yet to be known.
