Aside from nearly half an hour of new footage, we learned many details about the cross-gen game that could potentially have Marvel ties that will be published by Square Enix.
„We are making the game we always wanted to play. The team at People Can Fly are all gamers and we love shooters. Shooters are in our DNA and we have been making them for decades. At the same time, we also love RPGs. We always wanted to play a deep RPG, with an epic story and the flexibility to create lots of interesting character builds, but we also wanted a skill-based, challenging and intense real-time combat system in our RPG. When the opportunity to create it ourselves came along, it was like a dream come true,” said Outriders creative director Barket Kmita in a press release.
People Can Fly, who previously worked on Bulletstorm and Gears of War (the latter had the Polish team in a supportive role), showcased the Pyromancer character class, which will showcase even further how Outriders doesn’t want to be a Gears of War-style cover TPS: the special abilities seem to reward agility over the slow-but-steady approach. Then, the Trickster seems to be slower but more useful in melee combat. The World Tier system acts as the game’s difficulty level: the higher the tier, the better the loot. However, if you (and your team, as this is a co-op title, although you could play it alone as well) die, then you risk falling to the previous tier. If you keep dying on Tier 4, you might be dropped to Tier 3.
People Can Fly also confirmed that there will be no microtransactions, and they also don’t consider Outriders to be a „GaaS” (game-as-a-service) title, which is utter nonsense, as even though they said the game will have no Denuvo, it will require a constant Internet connection, meaning if the servers are shut down, then you can kiss Outriders goodbye, making it a game as a service regardless what the devs say, as it wouldn’t be archived for future generations.
Outriders launches late this year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam).
