Bethesda announced on its website that two, currently available games on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One will get a PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X version. They are DOOM Eternal and The Elder Scrolls Online. If you have either game on one of the two platforms, you get the free upgrade down the line (PlayStation 4 > PlayStation 5, Xbox One > Xbox Series X) without paying for it. Both games will also have backwards compatibility.

More information (including expected release windows and a list of enhancements) about these upgraded versions will be announced for both titles in the coming weeks, which means Sony and Microsoft might reveal in August when the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X will launch. Also, Bethesda said that while it does not have any news to share just yet on its remaining catalogue of titles, the publisher is committed offering free upgrades for current-generation console owners of existing Bethesda games brought to the next-generation of consoles. That means other games will also get upgraded. One good guess would be Fallout 76, and to Hell with it, we’re guessing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as well.

Meanwhile, we still have absolutely nothing about Starfield, developed by Bethesda Game Studios (where Todd Howard works) – perhaps they announced it too early, along with The Elder Scrolls VI. Neither got any new relevant information throughout 2019. Are they putting far more emphasis on Fallout 76? Or is Starfield still years away from completion?
