Crysis Remastered: Console Ray Tracing On Video! [VIDEO]

We can now take a look at the ray tracing in action on Microsoft‘s console – yes, Crytek pulled it off on current-gen hardware.

Even if we are talking about a software solution (we previously wrote about it, so we’re not going into details – the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X will receive hardware ray tracing), it’s still a reasonable idea from Crytek. However, only the stronger current-gen consoles will allow software ray tracing, so unless you have a PlayStation 4 Pro or an Xbox Series X, you will miss out on it on a console. We see a variety of reflective surfaces. Even the characters’ outfits seem to be reflective!

However, there are some limitations to the rule. The reflections are only on 540p resolution, and some things, such as the character models, have no reflections whatsoever. Then again, when the PlayStation 4 Pro and the Xbox One X were released, ray tracing wasn’t meant to be their goal. Crysis Remastered’s ray tracing mode runs at 1080p resolution on a 30 FPS frame rate on Xbox One X, and slightly below 1080p/30 FPS on PlayStation 4 Pro (DigitalFoundry didn’t specify the resolution). The resolution in the ray tracing mode is dynamic, but it stays pretty close to 1080p on the Xbox One X.

„In Crysis 1, what begins as a simple rescue mission becomes the battleground of a new war as alien invaders swarm over a North Korean island chain. Armed with a powerful Nanosuit, players can become invisible to stalk enemy patrols or boost strength to lay waste to vehicles. The Nanosuit’s speed, strength, armour, and cloaking allow creative solutions for every kind of fight, while a huge arsenal of modular weaponry provides unprecedented control over play style. In the ever-changing environment, adapt tactics and gear to dominate your enemies, in an enormous sandbox world,” the press release said in April.

Crysis Remastered launched on the Nintendo Switch on July 23. The PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC will get the game on September 2018. Ray tracing seems to be trendy, but not a lot of games jumped on the train yet…
