Cyberpunk 2077: Despite Being Buggy And Weak On Consoles, It Already Turns A Profit [VIDEO]

CD Projekt RED‘s game isn’t that good on current-gen consoles, plus Cyberpunk 2077 suffers from bugs on PC, but despite all this, the Polish devs already gain profit.

According to the newest financial report, „the estimated licensing royalties receivable in association with pre-order sales of Cyberpunk 2077 across all of its digital distribution channels have exceeded the sum of the total development expenditures related to the game, and the game’s marketing and promotional costs borne by CD Projekt RED – either already incurred or anticipated for the remainder of 2020.” You read that correctly: the game, which also pulled its biggest PC launch (while also reaching a million concurrent Steam players), turned a profit solely on pre-orders.

CD Projekt RED’s investor relations Twitter account also confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 had 59% of its eight million pre-orders on PC and 41% on consoles (no further details on the PlayStation 4/Xbox One share). 26% of the preorders were for physical copies of the game, while 74% of them were for digital copies. Since Cyberpunk 2077 has hit fifty million dollars of revenue, according to Valve’s rules, the game gets 80% of the sales money to CD Projekt RED (CDPR onwards) – if you want to support the Poles, get the game on GOG, as the DRM-free store is theirs. However, the game did not have that good of a launch, which is possibly why the company’s share value has dropped…

A few days ago, we discussed how Cyberpunk 2077 can cause potential seizures, and the 1.04 patch was meant to address the issue, but on Twitter, the devs wrote that they kept a song in the playlist of non-copyrighted music that was licensed, and they apologized as this could have caused DMCA claims during the Braindance sequences. Speaking of Braindance, they smoothed out the effect and reduced both the frequency and magnitude of the flashing. Still, the game is buggy, and quite by a margin – there is a good reason why the subreddit has a topic with over 15000 comments.

Digital Foundry analysed the console versions, and their results are not that promising. The base PlayStation 4 runs the new CDPR game at a dynamic 900p with dips to 720p, with the frame rate going as low as 15 FPS. The PlayStation 4 Pro shifts between 972p and 1188p, with the frame rate hitting the low twenties if we roam Night City’s populated regions. The Xbox One (Xbox One S) isn’t in a better situation. In other words, the current-gen consoles still suffer even after a day-1 patch-

Cyberpunk 2077 runs better on the next-gen consoles, but their patch hasn’t been released yet (and won’t be available until next year)…
