Regardless of what CD Projekt RED‘s game will get in terms of review scores, the developers will get all the bonuses (and they have money to spare, as Cyberpunk 2077 already turned a profit from pre-orders only).
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reports that CD Projekt RED (shortened to CDPR onwards) sent out an email on Friday that reveals the staff will get full bonuses, no matter what review scores Cyberpunk 2077 gets. „We initially had a bonus system that was focused on the game’s ratings and the release date, but after consideration, we believe that measure is simply not fair under the circumstances. We underestimated the lengths and complexity involved to make this a reality, and still, you did everything you could to deliver an ambitious, special game,” wrote studio head and the game’s director Adam Badowski in the email sent to staff.
The original concept meant that Cyberpunk 2077 would have had to get at least a 90 score on Metacritic for full bonuses, and it has hit the score on PC. On consoles, however, the game has issues, as we mentioned yesterday – the current-gen versions are nearly abysmal. Schreier wrote that the original bonus system at CDPR was based on tokens featuring the studio’s red bird logo. These tokens would be handed out by team leaders to the most deserving team members. These tokens would only result in bonuses if the game’s release date and review score criteria were hit. Also, after the game was delayed from the September launch window, devs had to work six-day working weeks.
Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2077 is still buggy. To quote a Reddit user, „This is driving me nuts, but an NPC by the name of Hwangbo has been following me since some early side mission. Fast travel will get rid of him for a few minutes, but then I see the green icon appear on my radar and sure enough, he is following me all through Night City.” Hwangbo is used in an escort mission, but a buggy mission scripting meant that after a shoot-out, it did not get „deactivated”, which led to ruining the immersion in The Heist, where we have to be stealthy, while the NPC just casually crouches in the middle of a room. Another user also got followed, but by a more menacing NPC (Dum Dum). So, CDPR has its work cut out for the 1.05 patch…
If that’s not all, Twitter has a new trend: the players use the #Cyberbug2077 hashtag to showcase the bugs, such as falling out of bounds, textures not loading properly, a sexual organ coming through clothing, a buggy urinating animation… or a PC user that has a beefy enough PC and an SSD and yet suffer from slowdowns and stuttering audio, even with the newest drivers. And this character creation is perfect…
There’s still room for improvement.
