Naughty Dog is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the launch of the finale for Nathan Drake’s plot, and for a good reason: the currently last main episode of Uncharted can celebrate some solid numbers.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was one of the biggest game of the PlayStation 4, and Naughty Dog published a special retrospective blog post to reminisce about ending Drake’s story. The most important part is mentioned by the studio’s Dinah Bakeer: „We’ve been honoured by the reception Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has received from you, the community, fans, and players. As of 2021, over 37 million individual players have downloaded and experienced Nathan Drake’s ultimate adventure.”
As a PlayStation 4-exclusive (okay, there’s the PlayStation 5 Standard Edition and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, too…), 37 million is a respectable number. However, two factors slightly distort the result. One of them is that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was a PlayStation Plus freebie in April 2020 (meaning about 41 million subscribers had access to the game right then and there as a potential download!), and also, the PlayStation Plus Collection is available for all PlayStation 5 owners if they have an active PlayStation Plus subscription. The pack of PS4 games include Naughty Dog’s title, too.
We’ve taken a few more statistics from Twitter: there are 13.3 million multiplayer players, 9.5 million players have used at least one accessibility option, 9.8 million have played with the lemur in the market, 7.5 million players played Marco Polo (again), 2 million players have climbed to the very top of the clock tower, 1.2 million players have hit all the targets in the attic with the toy gun, and… this one is weird: 2 million players have taken a photo of Sully.
Seeing how at least 110 million PlayStation 4 units have been sold, it’s a solid attach percentage.
