Xbox Game Studios will work together on something with one of the studios of the Chinese tech giant.
Ben Decker, Xbox‘ gaming services’ general manager, was interviewed by Gameradar, and here, he was talking about the growth of Xbox Game Pass: „55% of those surveyed said the main reason that they joined is to get new games at release – that day one content. That’s why we made the investments that we have. We have 23 studios across Xbox and Bethesda, working on Halo, Forza, Fallout, and new IP that we haven’t even talked about yet that’s gonna blow your mind. We can deliver all of that into Game Pass on day one,” Decker said.
But Microsoft has a lot, recently ignored IP. We can list a few: Crimson Skies, MechAssault, Project Gotham Racing, Viva Piñata. And there are many more at the studios they acquired (Ninja Theory, inXile, Obsidian, Compulsion Games, Undead Labs, Double Fine, and all the studios at ZeniMax/Bethesda). However, since Sony recently also talked about focusing on new IP (nearly half of the currently in-development titles), it’d make sense for Microsoft to also experiment with new things.
And Tencent‘s TiMi (Tianmei) Studio announced a partnership with Microsoft with the following statement: „Today, Tencent Tianmei Studio Group announced that it has formally formed an in-depth strategic partnership with Xbox Game Studios. The two parties will combine their respective experiences and advantages to carry out in-depth cooperation. Xbox Game Studios is a global leader in the gaming industry, dedicated to delivering premium games for every gamer on console, PC and mobile device platforms. The studio is also responsible for developing and publishing a series of the largest game series in history.
TiMi Studio Group is the high-quality game research and development team of Tencent Games and has always been committed to bringing players a better gaming experience. Through this strategic cooperation, TiMi Studio Group will carry out multi-dimensional and in-depth cooperation and communication with Xbox Game Studios, jointly create excellent game content and bring brand-new game sensory experience to players. The specific cooperation between Tencent TiMi Studio Group and Xbox Game Studios will be officially met with the general public within this year, so stay tuned!”, Tencent wrote.
While we suspect that this partnership is Microsoft’s way to gain a foothold in the Chinese gaming market (officially, mind you), this deal could be a way to see one of the Xbox IPs get a new mobile game.
