eBay changed its policy, which will effectively disallow selling adult material on this online marketplace.
eBay has been a veteran marketplace, although Amazon has been one that has become an even bigger place to buy/sell items. Still, eBay has been there for smaller products, and it could be useful to find second-hand items at a reasonable price. However, there’s a new policy change here, and it will mean that eBay is cracking down on sexually explicit content. So anything with an X, XXX or R18 rating will be barred from the site altogether.
If you think this is to protect the children, that’d be wrong thought. eBay only allows signing up if you are over the age of eighteen, so this push to ban adult material isn’t necessarily meaning that children will see fewer adult listings for products. Here’s what eBay has to say about the policy change. We’ll quote it verbatim: „The following items are not allowed: adult items with content that is illegal. Items that do not comply with our Illegal explicit content policy. Sexually oriented materials, including items containing nudity and displays of sexual activity, are not allowed. Sexually explicit anime, comics, books, films, manga, hentai, yaoi will also be prohibited.”
Sure, you might think that there’s an adult-only portion for eBay for this. Indeed, there is one, but that is getting removed. The explanation is a logical contradiction: „We want to make adult items available to those who wish to purchase them and can do so legally while preventing those who do not wish to view or purchase these items from easily accessing them.” What did we just read…?
So eBay wants to sell adult items… while getting rid of them in the process. It doesn’t make much sense now, does it?
