FromSoftware‘s game is likely not going to receive a PlayStation 4 iteration.
Previously, we discussed how PlayStation Game Size talked on Twitter about how it found an entry in the Sony database for Demon’s Souls on PlayStation 4. It brought up the question for many whether there could be a version of the game for the previous Sony console, as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales or Sackboy: A Big Adventure launched as cross-gen titles, and GodFall has confirmed to receive a PlayStation 4 port. So, would Bluepoint (which is now alone, as Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio is gone) bring us a backport of the PlayStation 5-exclusive title?
Here’s what Lance McDonald, a popular modder, had to say on Twitter: „It’s very likely a PlayStation Now entry for the internal port of Demon’s Souls’ PlayStation 3 [original] for PlayStation 4 that was created during the early stages of the remake for remote Quality Assurance.
Sony often does this. These builds are never intended for release. I’d be willing to put money on this being exactly what it is, now that I think about exactly what data was scraped and exactly what I saw personally during the remake’s development,” he wrote.
However, this tweet is the important part „The database entry [for Demon’s Souls on PlayStation 4] is over 4 years old and whoever scraped it managed to somehow do it without obtaining even a single piece of metadata to verify any aspect of it, so I don’t think it’s worth even acknowledging personally.”
That effectively settles everything. To us, it sounds like Demon’s Souls Remake is now following the same fate as Returnal or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart: PlayStation 5 yes, PlayStation 4 no. Thus, we don’t think a PlayStation 4 backport will happen.
