The game, which was announced as a PlayStation 4-exclusive title, is still not something that Wild Sheep Studio has given up on… even though we wouldn’t be angry if they decided to move on and do something else instead.
On the ResetEra forums, Wild Sheep Studio‘s job listings have been posted. This is weird because the game was announced at Gamescom… in 2014, by Michel Ancel (who was accused of misconduct at Ubisoft, leading to him retiring from the gaming industry; we wrote about these subjects… also, you might know him as the creator of Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil).
The reason why we can be so sure about WiLD being still under the knife is that a few job listings openly mention the name of this game, meaning the studio (who might have only this game under their belt if they ever get to finish it) hasn’t given up on the title that Ancel said is in good hands (the same goes for Beyond Good & Evil 2, which also seems to be in catastrophic development hell…). „You will create the level art of some parts of the WILD world, from early-stage to polish. You will be solving technical problems that involve multiple disciplines, setting up and ensuring art pipelines can run efficiently and produce high-quality output,” reads the job description for a level artist.
We’re not sure if Sony Interactive Entertainment (which has gone through a lot of changes, including shutting SIE Japan Studio down and replacing it with Team Asobi, for example) is still funding WiLD, which was announced just as the PlayStation 4 was heading for its first birthday. Now, the PlayStation 5 is in the same scenario, meaning a whole console generation has passed.
At this rate, WiLD is this generation’s The Last Guardian (which also needed a console generation to hit the shelves), but it better not become another Duke Nukem Forever…
