It looks like the July 8, half-hour State of Play broadcast was nothing more than a small appetizer as a bigger PlayStation Event is expected…
A not-so-reliable insider, Roberto Serrano wrote on Twitter: „[The] next PlayStation event should be coming in August, before Gamescom 2021, most likely in the first half of next month. I have the date, but it’s not confirmed yet (I’ve shared it with [a] few people). Just wait.” Since Gamescom tends to be held in late August, going with an early August date makes sense.
However, on another account, he expanded what he shared: „[The] PlayStation Event [will be held on] August 12, 2021 [at] 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 11pm CEST. [It will feature] updates on the next God of War, Horizon Forbidden West, the next generation of PlayStation VR and more.” So it might feature a new trailer for God of War: Ragnarok (if it will be called as such), plus it might have Sony confirm whether Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West will launch in late 2021 on PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 or it gets delayed to 2022 (as Sony wasn’t sure about it recently).
So because of the details he shared, it might not be called State of Play, but instead, it could be a Future of Gaming event, similar to what the PlayStation 5 received in June 2020. And remember, regarding the July 8 broadcast, Sony openly said that the broadcast will not have any updates on the new PlayStation VR, the next God of War, and the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn…
It might also have official confirmation that Sony Interactive Entertainment acquired Bluepoint Games, which was previously accidentally shared by PlayStation Japan. Keep in mind that it’s not official yet, so take it all with a grain of salt.
