Electronic Arts and Motive want us to experience the Dead Space Remake, Isaac Clarke’s first adventure, in a coherent way without any loading times.
Electronic Arts is blatantly trying to copy Capcom’s success by bringing back the Dead Space IP that was unused for the past eight years (as Dead Space 3 was trying to compete with Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty to no avail…), but since the original creator, Glen Schofield, is no longer around the publisher (he’s now working on a new sci-fi survival horror, The Callisto Protocol, which is set in the same universe as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds…), they resorted to a simple remake.
Roman Campos-Oirela, the creative director of Dead Space, revealed in a new interview on Dead Space’s website that the game will be fully rebuilt in Frostbite with new assets, character models, or environments. Motive believes that Dead Space will now do things that older technology can’t handle to create an „impossible sense of immersion.”
„We’re playing with volumetric effects, so instead of just having sprites, you’re able to feel the depth of a room, the thickness of the air. We’re playing with shadows, with dynamic lighting, so not only does it create the mood and the atmosphere, but it also affects gameplay, because the player can control the lighting in certain areas of the ship.
Audio also plays an important role in reinforcing that sense of immersion. This is one area of the original game that still resonates with players. We are working on enhancing the experience and providing believable audio that focuses on object positioning and 3D sounds propagation,” Philippe Ducharme, the senior producer, added.
„And the super-fast SSDs on modern systems allow us to load and unload fast. We intend to offer a fully unbroken experience, it will be an uninterrupted sequence shot, from the start screen to the end credit, without interruption,” Campos-Oriola concluded.
Dead Space’s remake is possibly arriving in 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
