The head of Blue Box Game Studios claims that the Abandoned trailer is going to arrive shortly.
NME talked with Kahraman, who admitted that he’s pretty depressed now as people think of Blue Box as scammers. (Even though we have recapped their past six years… so why is he surprised?) Then, he admitted that Abandoned’s genre (even IF the game will be called as such) isn’t necessarily horror: “Abandoned is a shooter/survival game. It has some horror elements in it, but it’s not a horror game. It’s not what people think—that it’s Silent Hill,” Kahraman said.
Kahraman provided some details about the game, and this is what the site said: “One thing we can say is that Abandoned is not what you think it is. Not even close.” Then, the head of Blue Box mentioned how sprinting or getting hurt can affect our aim and that fear can also impact our character. All of this is achieved by high-end motion capture “We do motion capture ourselves, and we create systems for the game based on animation data,” he added, explaining how it makes exploration, receiving damage, survival, and “you just play the game…in a whole different way.”
“I think this mechanic is something awesome. What we have so far, it’s not ready for the public to see, but once it’s polished, we’ll show some footage. That’s why I’m so hyped about Abandoned because it’s new,” Kahraman added. This system is one of the reasons why the Abandoned Realtime Experience app started with the same teaser as the video they posted on Twitter, admitting that people were disappointed.
“We had to cut out some footage from the opening teaser, and I knew that it wasn’t a good idea to use the same footage that we had on Twitter and put in there because it’s just four seconds of footage, and it doesn’t give much. But we needed to do this because people wanted to have a patch, right? That was our priority—just get the patch out there because we will be adding more content later,” Kahraman said.
“I’m depressed right now. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. The biggest thing that’s bugging me is just that people are labelling us as scammers. That is the big thing that hurts me. Because that is not my intention at all, you know? We don’t want the same mistakes—we don’t want to announce a date and then make it tight again for us,” the head of Blue Box claimed. He hinted that the first cinematic trailer is coming shortly, and the team aimed for the Gamescom period (late August), but he isn’t making promises. However, he added that the playable prologue would follow shortly after the cinematic reveal. So: “soon.”
The app has a blurred image with an eye patch, which, according to Kahraman, turns out to be the antagonist: “People misunderstood that, so from now on we’re not going to blur anything anymore. [He is] a MetaHuman-powered character,” debunking the rumours tying the game to Metal Gear Solid. He added that the people who work on the game don’t show themselves except for Nuare, a recognized outsourcing studio: “It’s not fun being labelled as a scammer. So, yeah, that’s the reason why people don’t feel comfortable right now showing their faces or even publicly announcing that they’re involved with Abandoned.”
We have to repeat that Blue Box Game Studios’ Twitter account is to blame. They previously wrote something that got since deleted, and it said something similar to “Abandoned = Starts with an S, ends with an L.”
