Gran Turismo 7: About The Automotive Culture [VIDEO]

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Polyphony Digital give us a behind-the-scenes look at the next Gran Turismo.

The videos will be called The Starting Line, and the first one features the father of Gran Turismo, Kazunori Yamauchi, who also looks back at the origins of the series. He also mentions the automotive culture, which implies that we should be talking about the art of embracing the design and performance of cars.

The creator of the Gran Turismo franchise believes that the car is one of the most beautiful industrial products. The definition of car culture is the enjoyment of its form, and there is another element to this: under car culture, there is the creation of new vehicles all over the world, and then the enjoyment of them. For example, if you find a nice-looking car parking and you stop to look at it in its beauty, that is also part of the car culture, following Yamauchi’s train of thought.

Meanwhile, in the video, we see several cars; we also see returning cars (such as the Chaparral 2J, or the Castrol TOM’S Supra GT JGTC, now a Super GT race car, seen in the thumbnail), and new vehicles are also spotted, such as the 1978 Alpine A220. There’s a whole range of brands to choose from: Porsche, Jaguar, McLaren… so there’ll be a range of cars from ordinary streetcars to cars designed entirely for racing… but that’s what Gran Turismo is known for, right?

Meanwhile, you can see some neon lines in the video. A Twitter user noticed that this is a track map, and we can tell which one: the Japanese developers have hidden the map of Deep Forest Raceway, which was already there in the first game, in the video. Clever, very clever… packing as many older tracks into the game as possible will please veteran fans. (WCCFTech mistakenly named Motor Sports Land, the track in GT2, but that’s wrong.)

Gran Turismo 7 will be released on March 4 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
