The latest rating for Bayonetta 3 includes some previously unknown plot details.
Last month, PlatiumGames shared the good news that Bayonetta 3 would be coming to Nintendo Switch on October 28(opens in new tab)(opens in new tab). As that date approaches, the third installment in the quirky action series has recently been given a rating in Australia. Thanks to the game’s page on the Australian rating body’s website(opens in new tab), we now have some more details about the story. Below are minor spoilers for Bayonetta 3, so if you’d rather discover things for yourself, avert your eyes now.
According to the classification information, in addition to the game’s new foes, Homunculi, fans will also have to face a villain called the “Singularity”. The Singularity, in typical bad guy fashion, is out to destroy worlds, and Bayonetta will have to travel to the island of Thule to thwart his nefarious plans.
The full description reads: “Bayonetta 3 is an action-adventure game in which human characters travel through a series of fantasy environments where they battle monsters called Homunculi and an evil creature called the Singularity. Players must travel to an island, Thule, to prevent the Singularity from destroying the known worlds.”
In addition to the story tidbits, the rating also sheds light on the online elements of Bayonetta 3. The game will feature shared leaderboards that allow you to “top up your achievements for each chapter within the game”. There’s no mention of online multiplayer or co-operative play in the witch’s third outing, suggesting that Bayonetta 2’s clever co-operative mode Tag Climax may not be returning.
The game has a 15+ rating, and as the ESRB rating (opens in new tab) revealed earlier, it contains violence and partial nudity, which will probably surprise no one. But this time there’s an option to reduce the nudity (opens in new tab). “Naïve Angel Mode” keeps the game’s title character more hidden by unleashing his strongest moves.
