Could Storyboards For The Planned Tomb Raider Sequel Be Leaked?!

MOVIE NEWS – Alicia Vikander brought Lara Croft to life in 2018, and new storyboards have hinted at what could be included in a Tomb Raider sequel starring her.

For a long time, it looked like a sequel to 2018’s Tomb Raider was on the cards, but it seemed that the last hopes for the franchise starring Alicia Vikander were dashed by the outbreak of the Covid epidemic and the resulting delays in the entertainment industry. Although MGM is still planning a sequel, it was revealed in July this year that their chance had run out and their option on the rights had expired. Now some newly released storyboards from the lost sequel have given us a glimpse into a scene from the film.

Tomb Raider first hit the big screen in the early 2000s, with Angelina Jolie playing the pretty and feisty archaeologist girl.

Jump forward to 2018, and Croft has returned in a fiercer, tougher form, just like the character in the more recent games. Alicia Vikander gave it her all in the role, playing a more realistic version of the character, but it wasn’t enough to make it a box office hit or to garner impressive critical and audience reviews. However, work on the sequel has begun, and while very little has been revealed about where it might have gone, new storyboards shared by artist Jake Lunt Davies show a raid on Croft Castle that would have been part of the film’s plot.

Although Hollywood remains a fan of game adaptations, the Tomb Raider films have so far failed to live up to expectations.

Obviously, the question arises as to how a new game adaptation could be more successful – is it even worth trying? When MGM relinquished the rights, a bidding war was reportedly launched, meaning that while a 2018 film version may not move forward, it’s only a matter of time before Lara Croft returns to screens in some form.

While it’s never known how the 2018 Tomb Raider sequel would have turned out, Vikander has stated that he would still love to play the role, so it’s not out of the question that we could see him reprise his role as Lara Croft.
