Capcom wants people constantly pushing buttons (or mashing them) to have a sense of achievement.
In Street Fighter 6, there will be a new dynamic control scheme where you can press buttons randomly, and the AI will make moves for you. It would be the third control method, in addition to the previously announced classic and simplified modern controls. According to Capcom, dynamic controls rely on artificial intelligence to decide which movements our character should make in a given situation.
Takayuki Nakayama, Street Fighter 6’s director, talked about it in an interview with Game Informer. According to him, in a normal fighting game (he used that term!), pressing buttons repeatedly and randomly doesn’t result in many successful attacks (whiffing). Still, they wanted something important where change could happen even if you’re just pressing buttons while cornered, for example. If a character is far away, one button might trigger a projectile attack (Sonic Boom in the case of Guile, for example), but if the opponent is closer, the same button will start a combo. That’s why they called the handling solution dynamic, where you can still manually move your character and perform parries.
In contrast to the Classic and Modern handling methods, Dynamic has a legitimate limitation. It can only be used in local play (since AI can react to itself, but not necessarily to another player, but it may raise the question of whether the opponent’s AI can’t anticipate our moves), which is to be expected from Capcom. Bravo.
We don’t know Street Fighter 6’s precise release date. Capcom has only said it will be released in 2023, but at least we know the target platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (with Denuvo) and PlayStation 4. There will be no Xbox One version.
