MOVIE NEWS –Luis Guzmán has enough about everyone thinking that he was the guy from Ghost when he wasn’t even in that movie.
Luis Guzmán was last seen in the Netflix series Wednesday, in which he played Gomez Addams, the title character’s father, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones. The Puerto Rican-born actor is a familiar face, as wefamiliarin (usually) supporting roles in films since the 1980s. You’d think it would be hard to mistake him for anyone else, but by his own admission, it happens a lot.
The actor was a guest on The Rich Eisen Show on Wednesday where he talked about how he is very often mistaken for the guy who killed Sam, played by Patrick Swayze, in a planned robbery attempt gone wrong at the beginning of Ghost. But that role was played by the late Rick Aviles:
“To this day, I can’t walk through an airport or a mall without someone asking me, ‘Why did you kill Patrick Swayze?’ or ‘What was it like working with Whoopi Goldberg?’ If I had a nickel for every time I did that, I’d probably own the studio where we’re shooting this, and I’d have my own island and a couple of private jets. But seriously!
I was flying over in Detroit one time and this 90-year-old lady came up to me and said, ‘Oh my God, I loved you in Ghost!’ I felt really bad, so I explained to her, ‘No, that was somebody else.’ And she said, ‘Well, what did I see you in?’ ‘Did you see The Count of Monte Cristo?’ And she said, ‘I love that movie. I said ‘Well, I played Jacopo in that’ and he said ‘No, you didn’t!’
“So, from that moment on I vowed to be the guy from Ghost from now on,” concluded Guzmán, who was once mistaken for the famous drug lord El Chapo (whose real name is Joaquín Guzmán) by a newspaper, who put his photo in the article as an illustration instead of the criminal’s, which made the actor a little upset on Twitter: “Lakewood Shopper, you owe me a f*cking apology! What the f*ck?!” Let’s face it, they’d rather confuse you with Rick Aviles from Ghost than a drug lord…
