Would We Have the New James Bond?

MOVIE NEWS – Ever since Daniel Craig stepped down as James Bond, social media platforms have been flooded with talk of the next Bond. While Idris Elba was previously tipped as the frontrunner for the role, the latest news is that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the new favourite.

According to a report in The Sun, the English actor recently appeared at a screen test where he was taken in by Bond producer Barbara Broccoli. A source told the publication, “Aaron went to a screen test in September to be the next Bond and the producers and Barbara really liked him. Now he’s one of the frontrunners.”

After Craig’s departure, many fans expressed their desire to see a change in the franchise’s legacy. While some called for a female Bond, others wanted to see more representation in other areas. Earlier this year, Broccoli said the next Bond would be older.

The producer also revealed, “We’re still talking about that. There’s no script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film, because it’s really a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is, and that takes time. I would say it’s at least two years of shooting.”

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been in impressive form of late, following his commendable performance in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet with a comic turn in Bullet Train. His pairing with Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry has proved to be one of the highlights of David Leitch’s latest action film.

However, let’s not forget that this is just an audition for James Bond and there have been countless ‘promising’ actors who have auditioned for such a role (who ‘liked’ Barbara Broccoli) and who didn’t end up becoming Bond.
