MOVIE NEWS – JUNO11, previously known primarily as a producer and marketing agency for domestic productions, promises life-affirming and uplifting films as a distributor: JUNO11 Distribution, a film distributor led by a female producer and thus unique in this country, JUNO11 Distribution is a Wim Wenders producer opens the presentation of his foreign films with Roving Woman, a road movie created under his supervision. The film arrives in domestic cinemas on July 27.
The name of JUNO11 Pictures is not unknown in the Hungarian film industry: the production company founded by producer Claudia Sümeghy and director Yvan Topolánszky has in recent years produced films such as CURTIZ – The Hungarian who turned Hollywood upside down, or Heights and Depths, and he is currently working on his series project DVNA and recently started filming on the family film I accidentally wrote a book. The company has always distributed its own titles, and will use the experience gained here in the future to distribute films from other domestic and foreign producers. The ethos of the business branch launched under the name JUNO11 Distribution is strongly determined by the female point of view, and as such, it is unique on the domestic market. The strategic manager of the company is Claudia Sümeghy, the marketing manager is Orsolya Kata Molnár, who previously worked on domestic campaigns for Woody Allen and Pedro Almodóvar films, the art director is Tamás Yvan Topolánszky, and the manager responsible for distribution is Tamás Teszler, who manages the traditional and alternative distribution of many domestic productions. Dorka Tamás is responsible for press relations as a freelancer.
“Entering the film distribution market in 2023 is crazy, and our small country can boast of many distributors – so starting the business is much more a new expression of our passion and enthusiasm for films than a business consideration full of expectations.” We have always viewed films as a means at our disposal, with which, in addition to entertainment, we can also influence the spiritual state of our communities. The JUNO11 team chooses content together: from the marketing manager to our interns, everyone watches the films together, then we have a long discussion about them and vote. As in filmmaking, here too we strive to be able to present films that can be interpreted at the most diverse levels of sensitivity to the domestic audience, while dealing with what gives us pleasure and fills us up,” said Claudia Sümeghy of aspects of film selection. – “There are many more women in the team and in the management, so a kind of female power inevitably pervades our everyday life – when choosing films, this means a different sensitivity, new aspects, and on weekdays, a family-friendly work environment and a balanced atmosphere for us.”
JUNO11 Distribution will arrive on July 27 with its first foreign film, Roving Woman, created under the supervision of the producer Wim Wenders. The road movie directed by Michal Chmielewski follows Sara (Lena Góra, who co-wrote the script in addition to the director), who hires a car after her fiancé unexpectedly kicks her out. While driving on the endless roads of America, he meets strange people, and then decides to visit the owner of the car (John Hawkes), who touches his heart through the music he finds in the car. The film is expected in cinemas for lovers of beautiful images, atmospheric music and captivating stories.
JUNO11 Distribution’s summer offer continues with last year’s favorite Swiss comedy: Golden Years, coming at the end of the summer, is the story of a sixty-year-old couple (Esther Gemsch and Stefan Kurtz) who live in a Mediterranean on a sea cruise they hope to give their relationship a new impetus, but after they drift away from each other, they make unexpected discoveries about themselves and find a new direction for their life together. The film, rich in subtle humor, unexpected twists and heartwarming thoughts regardless of age, is directed by Barbara Kulcsár, who is of Hungarian origin but was already born in Zurich.
The distributor opens the autumn season with Adrian Goiginger’s heartwarming film: The Fox is the true story of the extraordinary friendship between a young soldier and a fox cub, inspired by the story of the director’s own grandfather. The new film by the director of the best possible worlds, set between the two world wars, is an intimate drama about loyalty and reconciliation. The film will be shown in Hungarian cinemas from October 12.
