Clockwork Revolution: “Arcanum And Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines’ Love Child”

The inXile Entertainment director, however, didn’t talk about the studio’s next game as a marketing ploy.

We’ve heard plenty of marketing talk about how game X combines Y and Z, and therefore X will be worth playing. Still, this time, it’s coming from someone who has worked on the other two games, so you can take what he says seriously, and it’s not just PR talk about one of the more promising titles in the Xbox exclusives…

Chad Moore, project director for Clockwork Revolution, wrote on Twitter that the deep world-building, immersive narrative, “crunchy” RPG systems, engaging gameplay, and massive reactivity to us have always made the game what he described as the lovechild of Arcanum and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. When you think about what he said (and who said it), he’s not far from the truth…

Moore previously worked at Troika Games, which worked on Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, The Temple of Elemental Evil, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. He played a relatively significant role in Arcanum and Vampire. The studio has been discussed before via its founder Tim Cain (he set up the studio with Leonard Boyarsky and Jason Anderson, and the trio previously worked on the first Fallout), so it was somewhat expected that Arcanum was a sort of alternate Fallout 2 (an isometric RPG). With Vampire: The Masquerade, all this was brought to a first-person view and into true 3D on Valve’s Source engine, and it still holds its own today (Wesp5 Unofficial Patch’s plus version is also recommended), and can often be compared to Deus Ex…

InXile has stayed hard at it in hardcore RPGs with the Wasteland games and Torment: Tides of Numenera. The legacy of Troika is also tangible, as Anderson is also working here and is currently involved with Clockwork Revolution. Cain and Boyarsky have not moved away from the games industry either (although the former is semi-retired and has shared a lot of interesting stuff on his YouTube channel), as they are working on The Outer Worlds 2 at Obsidian Entertainment.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
