On Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, Capcom’s first-person survival horror doesn’t falter, so the quality of the port in terms of performance is not in question.
We’ve been hearing for almost two months now that the A17 Pro chip in the two more expensive models of the iPhone 15 will run several AAA games. Among them is Resident Evil: Village, which is available today on the Apple App Store, and from the video embedded below, the first impressions are overwhelmingly positive: it holds steady at sixty frames per second at HD+ resolution, and you get plenty of graphics settings to tweak Capcom’s game to run even more stably.
You can also play on an external monitor via the USB-C port, but the resolution is only 1560×720 (although you could play at 2796×1290, but the performance isn’t the best; 2340×1080 is fair) and you only get 30 fps. MetalFX upscaling works in a similar way to Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR, and the Quality and Performance options give you the choice of quality or performance.
To get a stable 60 FPS, it is recommended to reduce the resolution, but keep in mind the VRAM usage. With 6GB of memory available on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, it’s easy to get something good out of Ethan Winters’ Eastern European adventure. But not the best, because if you crank everything up to the max, the gaming experience won’t be as refined, and even if you try on iPads (if they have an M1 or M2 chip), you probably won’t get a perfect experience with maximum graphics.
We’re curious to see what Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, Death Stranding: Director’s Cut and Resident Evil 4 Remake on the Cupertino company’s devices, but we’ll know more about these ports in time. The game from Kojima Productions will be the most interesting of these, because it’s easy to make an Assassin’s Creed and a Resident Evil for mobile…
