MOVIE NEWS – The producers of Sicario 3 aimed to reunite the original trio, namely Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro, in the sequel.

 

 

The producers of the film series are working on Sicario 3. It may see the return of the original cast, including Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro. The first film of 2015 presented the drug war on the US-Mexico border to the public. It centered on the character of Blunt, an FBI agent. He is asked by a government task force to fight drug trafficking. Released in 2018, Sicario 2 continued the story, highlighting the escalation of the drug war. Cartels began smuggling terrorists across the border. In the sequel, Brolin’s character, Federal Agent Matt Graver, and Alejandro, played by Benicio, team up again to face this threat.

Speaking with Collider, producers Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill shared their enthusiasm for the project and their intention to bring the trio back together.

Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, they remain optimistic about the possibility of the actors’ return. The strike caused some delays in the script writing process. But the producers emphasized that those involved are well informed and enthusiastically continue the story.

“Our idea is to get the cast back together with Benicio, Emily, and Josh, and we’ve got a great story to tell… Benicio, by nature of just working with us most recently, has been probably the closest to it at the moment. But we’re keeping all the talent informed. They’ve stayed close to it. Like Trent said, the strike has just slowed us down a bit on this last draft, but I think everybody is very excited. Everyone sort of knows the framework of the story and is very excited to, hopefully, get our shooting draft in order very soon.”

 

Sicario 3 filming resumes after strikes are lifted

 

Sicario 3 will continue to focus on Benicio del Toro’s character. Producer Basil Iwanyk is enthusiastic about the prospects. According to him, Benicio’s portrayal is never boring and fans can’t get enough of him. Producer Erica Lee also expressed enthusiasm for the third installment, calling the concept “fantastic”.

Meanwhile, Josh Brolin is undeterred by potential delays. He can’t wait to return for Sicario 3, even if it means a longer wait. The script for the third film has already been written and revised. The team remains determined to create according to their vision.

Sicario 3 is currently on hold due to the Hollywood actors’ strike.
