TECH NEWS – Although the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has a larger vapor chamber (which results in better cooling), the new Snapdragon chip seems to run out of power faster.
In the latest 3DMark Solar Bay stress test, the Exynos 2400 came up with an impressive result: in the smaller Galaxy S24 Plus, it showed more stable performance than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3! In other words: Samsung’s latest system-on-a-chip (SoC) outperformed Qualcomm’s latest, most powerful silicon ever. The Solar Bay test is similar to 3DMark Wild Life Extreme in that it puts the smartphone’s chipset through its paces with all the CPU- and GPU-centric processes.
The test results were shared on Twitter and the tests were conducted by a site in Thailand called Beartai. The Exynos 2400 was able to maintain its performance better, throttling down to 64.6% of its real capacity, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 only managed 48.3%, despite the fact that this chip was not in the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, but in the top-of-the-line S24 Ultra, which has a 190% larger battery chamber. And it’s easy to say that there is a significant difference.
First impressions of the Exynos 2400 were also good, as it scored twice as much as the Exynos 2200 in the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme stress test, on par with Apple’s current best chip, the A17 Pro. But how did the Exynos 2400 win the comparison? In the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, FOWLP (Fan-out Wafer Level Packaging) technology was able to keep temperatures lower, so there was less need to limit performance. The improved thermal resistance resulted in better multi-core performance and therefore higher scores in the test.
However, we will see more tests on Samsung’s own chip, so the picture is not yet clear as to whether it can really perform better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but at least the initial test results are promising.
