Project Birdseye: A Spinoff Of The Callisto Protocol! [VIDEO]

Striking Distance Studios will also set the roguelike action game in a familiar location (another departure from The Callisto Protocol), but there are still a lot of questions surrounding the project.

Project Birdseye is Striking Distance Studios’ fast-paced, action-packed roguelike set in the Black Iron Prison. Since The Callisto Protocol was set in the same area, there will certainly be familiar locations (plus it will make world-building or creating prison assets a lot easier for the studio). In 2023, a small team began working on a passion project born out of an obsession with easy-to-use, playable, yet fun roguelikes.

The developers love the world they’ve created for The Callisto Protocol and want to continue playing in that figurative sandbox. Striking Distance Studios believes that Black Iron Prison is the perfect future punk playground for the team’s vision. That doesn’t mean it’s a sequel to The Callisto Protocol. Rather, it’s more of a side mission, which is why we’re calling it a spin-off.

This project appealed to the team because it allowed them to expand on the world of The Callisto Protocol and flex their creative muscles in a different way without interfering with the development of their next AAA game. Since much of The Callisto Protocol’s post-launch journey has been shaped by the community, it made sense to get everyone involved early in the development process to see if we liked the concept as much as they did.

So Krafton also agreed to a side project with Striking Distance Studios, because the publisher always has a say in these things. There’s a little catch with Project Birdseye: ,l.l.l.firstly, we have no idea what the target platforms are (are they not telling us this time because of the Nintendo Switch sequel?), and secondly, we don’t know when this smaller game will be released. We don’t expect Project Birdseye to be released this year. Maybe in 2025.
