TECH NEWS – A ransomware group claims to have stolen 1.5 terabytes of data from Kadokawa, including a lot of personal information.
On Twitter, a cybersecurity account called FalconFeeds reported what a ransomware group called BlackSuit posted on the dark web. The group says it has been accessing Kadokawa’s network for nearly a month, and believes it is causing disruptions to the company’s business processes. They have been able to download contacts, DocuSigned documents, legal documents, financial results, and many other documents for internal use that are not intended for public access.
Personal information, payment information, and email addresses were also provided to BlackSuit, allowing them to learn what emails and data Kadokawa users had accessed, what presentations they had created, what code they had written, and even files related to payment transactions could have been misappropriated. All of this could be revealed by BlackSuit on Monday, July 1, unless Kadokawa pays them enough money…

“Since we are businessmen, we are only interested in money. Kadokawa is trying to settle the deal, but the amount of money they have offered is extremely low for this company. To make a long story short, we have gained access to very personal information about Japanese citizens. These people would definitely like to keep the data related to their private lives confidential, no one would like to see ‘things they do in the night’ become public, including their emails and browsing history. Kadokawa’s management should understand one thing: if we do not make a deal by the end of this week, everything will become public.
Right now, the confidential life details of many Japanese citizens depend on Kadokawa’s management decision. We do not believe that Kadokawa’s top management will want to spend the next few months making excuses. Such exercises do not suit them at all. It would be much easier for a company like Kadokawa to pay up and move forward,” BlackSuit wrote.
They were recently accused of attacking CDK Global. This company provides software to about 15,000 car dealerships in North America…
