Installing Fortnite on an iPad Outside the EU: It’s Possible, but Not Easy! [VIDEO]

Officially (and presumably legally), Epic Games’ battle royale game can only be installed on iOS and iPadOS within the European Union, but it’s possible to install it outside of the EU, though it’s apparently a very complicated process.

It’s been a few years since Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store, but European Union law has forced the Cupertino-based company to allow Tim Sweeney’s game on the platform. Of course, that hasn’t stopped people outside the EU (US, Canada, etc…) from trying to install the app. In the video embedded below, you can see Fortnite in action on Saunders Tech’s device, but he doesn’t live in the EU, so installing it was a significantly complicated process.

It took him ten hours of brute force to get Fortnite up and running. He would like to make a tutorial out of it, but that would also take 5-10 hours. And an installation is usually a fraction of that. But why does the installation take so long? According to Saunders Tech, you need another iPad to repeat the process and bypass the European Union regional lock. In the video, you can see the character selection screen, but there is no other app to install, which is probably a feature of the brute force installation. There is no clear explanation yet.

On Twitter, many people suspect that Saunders Tech has been able to make Fortnite work outside of the EU using multiple components. In fact, a VPN is probably required, an IP address from a European region is required, and even that is not enough, as a European Apple ID is probably required. But even beyond that, you’ll probably need a bit of technical knowledge, and even then it’s not so certain that Apple won’t take action against you with a ban…

So Fortnite can be played elsewhere, but it’s not that easy.
