Sigourney Weaver will return to her iconic role as Ellen Ripley for the first time in 17 years. She will be joined by Tom Skerritt (Dallas), Veronic Cartwright (Lambert), Harry Dean Stanton (Brett), and Yaphet Kotto (Parker) – basically the whole crew of the original Alien.
It would be extremely motivating if it weren’t for one evident problem: you can only play these classic characters and their special missions if you pre-ordering the Alien Isolation.
Sega has taken what may very well be the coolest addition to Isolation and put it into a forced DLC. In fact, to play one of the missions you’ll need to pre-order specifically from GameStop.
In the “Crew Expendable” missions, players can play as Ripley, Dallas or Parker moments after Brett’s death, working to flush the alien from the Nostromo.
If you order from GameStop in the USA (or other vendors in non-US regions) you will receive the “Last Survivor” mission, and you can play as Ripley during the film’s conclusion. It all sounds pretty awesome, to be honest, especially since the original cast is also involved.
“It was unforgettable when Sigourney came in and started being Ellen Ripley again,” creative director Alistair Hope told IGN. “It was quite special. The real joy was having Sigourney say, ‘Ellen would say this.’ We’d all look at each other, and say, ‘yes, of course that’s what she would say’. That’s an insight we couldn’t possibly have without working closely with those guys.”

Sounds awesome. Unfortunately it’s pretty much a simple marketing gimmick rather than part of the real game. Certainly after the last Alien game—Aliens: Colonial Marines—any pre-orders for another Alien title would be more dangerous then a “leap of faith” in an Assassin’s Creed game…
Sigourney, when she was still young and pretty…
