Although the original Japanese launch of the Sony PlayStation happened in the end of 1994, the North American launch date is pretty much an iconic date now: 9/9/95. On September 9, 1995, so twenty years ago, the classic grey console has launched in North America. Europe got the PS1 twenty days later.
